Back in 1984 the only dance music section on BBC Radio 1 was 12 mins a week, called Steppin Out, every Monday at 6pm on the Peter Powell show. A mission of change was pledged. 16 years later on the most significant day of the century, Dec 31st 1999, we had 24 hours. The UK's most powerful radio station locked into dance music.
