Nakadia (DJ)

Nakadia (DJ)

Nakadia (Mungphanklang), is a female DJ from, Ko Samui, Thailand's second largest island, which lies in the Gulf of Thailand off the east coast of the Kra Isthmus. It's known for its palm-fringed beaches, coconut groves, mountainous rainforest, plus luxury resorts, spas and now a famous female DJ.

I personally visited the little island of Koh Samui in 1998 when putting the BBC Radio 1 Millennium plans together. In 2004 I met Nakadia who was just stepping out into the world of being a DJ. I advised her then and over subsequent years on how to keep positive on a difficult path for her, not only as a DJ but also as a female DJ from Thailand where the attitude towards women from the area is often misogynistic. Nakadia has kept going, week by week, month by month, year by year and now has a fantastic reputation around the world as an international DJ. She is an inspiration to millions of young female dance music fans living in the Eastern part of the planet. A great young DJ and I'm proud to say I helped a just a tiny bit, Naka plus Seb did all the work and the best part is that Naka used her DJ income to build a house for her Mum and family on her native Koh Samui island, what a beautiful gesture. Music is magical.

https://expatjane.blogspot.com - British music guru, Eddie Gordon, has said some great things about you and went as far as calling you 'like a Madonna of the DJ scene'. How does it feel to get such positive reviews and feedback?

Of course it makes me very happy when people write nice things about me, but to hear something like this from Eddie Gordon was a very big shock. I remember that I had tears in my eyes at the time. This was four years ago and at that time I did not really understand what he meant. I was just a very normal DJ and did not think I was unique. Everything is changing so quickly and it such an exciting time for me. Somehow it seems Eddie knew this would happen.
